Talk Show “Closer to…” and the Existence of Academic Advisors as Actual Efforts of Faculty of Psychology Unpad in Supporting Mental Health

The “Closer to…” The talk show program has been completed at the Faculty of Psychology (Fapsi), Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad). This talk show was held every Monday from September 2022 to March 2023 in the Plaza Batu area and Taman Cinta on the Fapsi Unpad campus.

The implementation of this program collaborates with all Fapsi Unpad educational staff as participants, hosts, and speakers, providing opportunities for the educational staff to share their experiences or concerns, which will be responded to by other participants.

Broadly speaking, this program is a concrete manifestation of Fapsi Unpad’s efforts to support Unpad’s goal of becoming a reputable university in the world, namely by implementing governance that meets international standards in carrying out the Tri Dharma of Higher Education and supporting activities. One such management is human resources management.

Hosts and speakers who appear are determined by lottery. When the talk show begins, the host will first introduce the resource person briefly, then ask participants to write their questions on paper, which will be collected and then read by the host to be answered by the resource person. The interviewee has the right to choose which questions he or she wants to answer. After the questions and answers session is over, the host closes the event. The talk show ends with input and appreciation.

With active participation in this weekly talk show, it is hoped that the educational staff will be trained to speak in public with confidence, greet warmly and first, smile, and appear with good body language, speaking with a round and confident vocalization. In addition, it is expected to build a better team with “do not know each other, then would not love each other” in the educational staff’s work environment.

Not only the talk show program for educational staff, Fapsi Unpad also provides support for mental health to students through the presence of academic advisors. One of the roles of academic advisors is to help students solve non-academic problems that interfere with academic performance. At Fapsi Unpad, many of the academic advisors are also qualified as psychologists. Therefore, this role can be realized through psychological assistance.

The “Closer to…” Talk Show Program and the presence of academic advisors for students are expected to be one of the consultation services for the unrest experienced by every campus citizen to get a solution, in line with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 3, which emphasizes mental health support in the campus environment.
