Author Shafrina W, Trista AC
In the odd semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, the Faculty of Psychology Universitas Padjadjaran held an Interpersonal Relationship course that discussed the dynamics of human relationships.
This course presented something special by involving international collaboration with Radboud University, the Netherlands, where Professor Johan Karremans, an expert in the field of interpersonal relationships, attended and taught directly in the class.
This activity began on August 14, 2023, with an offline meeting at the Faculty of Psychology Universitas Padjadjaran. The presence of Professor Johan Karremans from the Netherlands became a highly anticipated moment for the students. With a lecture that ran from August to December, students were given the opportunity to attend lectures in a hybrid format, which is a combination of offline and online meetings. This flexibility allowed students to remain active in learning despite being in different conditions.
During this course, students were required to develop a research design on interpersonal relationships. The research was conducted in groups, providing an opportunity for students to hone their teamwork and critical thinking skills.
One of the highlights of this course was the poster presentation session held as a form of midterm exam. This session was conducted through Zoom, where each group presented their research design in the form of a scientific poster.
Not only that, this course also broadens students’ horizons through cross-cultural discussion activities involving students from Radboud University. In the Cross-Cultural Discussion on Interpersonal Relationship session, groups of students from Universitas Padjadjaran and Radboud University were paired in small groups to discuss various topics related to interpersonal relationships, such as culture in relationships, challenges in relationships, and different perspectives on interpersonal relationships. These discussions took place online via Zoom and became a valued form of academic collaboration between the two universities.
To conclude the course, students took a final exam conducted through the LIVE platform. The final exam is an opportunity for students to show their understanding of the material they have learned and how they can apply that knowledge in a real-world context.
The involvement of Professor Johan Karremans and the collaboration with Radboud University made this course a meaningful learning experience for the Faculty of Psychology students. Through engaging activities such as research, presentations, and cross-cultural discussions, students not only gain theoretical knowledge but also practical skills needed in the working field. The collaboration with Radboud University has also broadened students’ horizons regarding global issues in the field of psychology.
