Faculty of Psychology Universitas Padjadjaran (Fapsi Unpad) has three programs that provide staff and students access to mental health support. These programs are Pusat Penguatan Karakter & Konseling Unpad (P2K2), Aku Sehat Mental or Aksen, and Hi-Care.
P2K2 was established with the aim of helping students to optimize their potential in dealing with academic and social environments, as well as physical and mental health, through character strengthening and counseling schemes that are preventive-interventive, curative, and promotive.
Run by a team consisting of psychologists, assistant psychologists, lecturers, and interns, P2K2 has two main activities, namely encouraging the strengthening of the character of Unpad students or JATIDIRI Unpad and providing free psychological services for the Padjadjaran University community, including students, lecturers, and staff, which can be carried out offline and online (in certain situations).
The P2K2 building is located on the Unpad campus, Jatinangor, next to the Kandaga Library of Universitas Padjadjaran, as well as across the back parking lot of Fapsi Unpad. P2K2 counseling areas include academic problems, interpersonal problems, frustration, stress, depression, career and future orientation, anxiety and emotional problems, and other psychological problems.
Throughout 2023, P2K2 has served a total of 81 male clients and 316 female clients in the age range of 17-26 years with 1100+ counseling sessions. According to reports, 82.2% of clients came to consult on clinical issues, while the rest consulted on education-related issues.
Still, in the same year, P2K2 also created a YouTube channel named @KeZaZhar Podcast to promote JATIDIRI and help new students develop themselves. 4 videos on the channel have been played at the Padjadjaran University New Student Reception or Prabu 2024.
Aku Sehat Mental or Aksen is a mental health program under the auspices of BEM Kema Fapsi Unpad Community Service Department. This program was held to introduce and raise awareness of the civitas of Unpad and the importance of mental health, as well as to celebrate World Mental Health Day.
During 2023, Aksen successfully held roadshows throughout Unpad to promote free counseling and the importance of mental health. In addition, Aksen also celebrated World Mental Health Day by organizing a campaign with a similar theme in Brooklyn Unpad. In the same year, Aksen successfully held a free counseling program for students throughout Indonesia. Collaborating with 25 counselors and psychologists, the program successfully brought together 50 students to consult for free with experts. Aksen does not stop there; there are still talk shows and workshops that discuss similar topics.
Finally, Fapsi Unpad also has Hi-Care, which is a program that provides access to mental health support under the BEM Kema Fapsi Unpad Student Welfare Department. Different from Aksen, which emphasizes the promotion of the importance of mental health and efforts to realize it, Hi-Care provides mental health education and peer counseling services for students. The mental health education is made one of them also to promote counseling in the form of educational content posted on Instagram @hicareunpad.
During 2023, it was recorded that Hi-Care successfully held sharing sessions with students of Unitar Malaysia and facilitated 65 peer counseling sessions for 49 active students of Universitas Padjadjaran. In addition, Hi-Care has also successfully held a campaign titled “Am I an Empath” on empathic listening which provided an opportunity for participants to improve their listening skills in listening to other people’s outpourings.
With the availability of access to mental health support through P2K2, Aksen, and Hi-Care, it is hoped that Fapsi Unpad staff and students will not be confused when at any time experiencing psychological problems that can be consulted so that their mental well-being is maintained and the continuity of teaching and learning activities on campus can continue to run smoothly.
