Photovoice Exhibition: Life on the Cikapundung River Side
On Tuesday, the 22nd of August 2023, the International Internship Programme – Psychology Intensive Programme was held. Besides being attended by two students of the Faculty of Psychology Unpad, Psychology students from RMIT University of Australia also came and participated. This programme was opened by the Head of Internationalization Unit Asteria Devy Kumalasari, S.Psi., M.Sc., Ph.D., Psikolog, which was then continued by a welcome speech from Vice Dean I, Frederick Dermawan Purba, M.Psi., Ph.D., Psikolog. The Faculty of Psychology Unpad welcomed them warmly. During their stay and activities in Unpad’s area, the international students were also introduced to Unpad and its history.
Before beginning all activities on the first day, RMIT students were invited to engage in an ice-breaking session on Unpad’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences’ Gazebo to help them to be more enthusiastic about the following activities. After it was finished, they watched PRABU’s second-day parade (Penerimaan Raya Mahasiswa Baru). It is an annual event in Unpad, which is held as the Procession of New Students Admissions in Unpad. The students from RMIT also visited the rectorate and rode an “odong” during their trip to Unpad’s Jatinangor Campus Area. They were given a short ten-minute break, which was then followed by a trip back to the Faculty of Psychology for a break and lunchtime. The activities during the first day were then continued with the second ice-breaking session and a presentation regarding the Photovoice Workshop given by Bang Oji. The activity ended with an explanation of the tasks and activities assigned for the next two weeks.
During their two-week stay in Unpad’s Faculty of Psychology, one of the most interesting things that was conducted was a visit to Cikapundung River, Lembang, Bandung. Both RMIT University Australia students and two Unpad’s Faculty of Psychology students collected data in the form of Photovoice. The results of the visit were then packaged and presented in a photovoice exhibition entitled “Live by The River”. This activity was held on Friday, the first of September, 2023, at Plaza Batu, Faculty of Psychology, Unpad. The photovoice documents were the result of the community and the condition of the Cikapundung River, which quality is still considered poor.
During the exhibition, both RMIT and Unpad students received many visits from the Faculty of Psychology’s students and lecturers. Enthusiasm for this event is high and can be seen from the people who came, read the posters, and asked questions. Through this interaction, they exchanged opinions and experiences. The findings from their observations regarding the communities living around the Cikapundung River were also very interesting. They underlined matters related to solidarity and high subjective well-being, even though the location where the residents lived seemed inadequate and still needed more maintenance.
This International Internship Program activity also brought a good impression to RMIT University Australia students. They felt the excitement, and even the participants expressed their joy and pleasure over the experience gained through this program. Through this program, they also become more familiar with Indonesian culture in general and Unpad culture in particular. Hopefully, in the future, there will be more in-depth collaborations held through internationalisation programs! (H)
Intelligence Assessment in Neuropsychology: A Challenge
On Friday, the 25th of August 2023, a Neuropsychology & Intelligence Measurement Class with Dr. M.P.H. Marc Hendriks from Radboud University, Netherlands. The class started from 13.30 until 15.30. During this class, the civitas from Universitas Padjadjaran’s Faculty of Psychology were very enthusiastic. In fact, not only undergraduate and graduate program students attended the class. The teaching lecturers also took part in the class actively.
Although the topics that were brought up seem quite complex, the class was opened with a few banters from Dr. M.P.H. Marc Hendriks himself. The atmosphere in the room felt relaxing and fun. Even so, the lecturers from Universitas Padjadjaran’s Faculty of Psychology and Dr. M.P.H. Marc Hendriks encouraged the students to ask questions and engage in discussions.
The class was conducted in the English language and discussed intelligence test tools first. This topic was then followed by components of intelligence in general and Neuropsychological theories related to intelligence. Besides that, clinical neuropsychology was also an exciting discussion in this class – where this topic discussed the relationship between the brain and behavior in the realm of Clinical Psychology, especially regarding assessment, treatment, and care/intervention.
Apart from that, this class also explained intelligence in the context of human life and the current existence of AI. Intelligence in humans is a fundamental mental ability which enables humans to make reasons, plans, solutions, problems, and so on in human experience. Meanwhile, AI is artificial intelligence. This differs AI and humans.
More than that, Dr. M.P.H. Marc Hendriks also described intelligence and cognitive abilities in everyday life. He also discussed assessments in terms of cultural differences and locations. The duration of two hours in this class did not even feel like a long time. There were many two-way discussions during the class. This also made the class atmosphere feel livelier.
When it was finished, Dr. M.P.H. Marc Hendriks closed the class with a thankful remark. A representative from the Universitas Padjadjaran’s Faculty of Psychology, Prof. Dr. Wilis Srisayekti, a psychologist, also gave him a memento. During the photo session together, Dr. M.P.H. Marc Hendriks proudly showed off the souvenirs that the faculty gave him. With this class, we hope that the students of the Faculty of Psychology Unpad will be more enthusiastic about working in the field of Neuropsychology and Intelligence! (H)
The Faculty of Psychology’s Public Relation — On Tuesday, 8th of August 2023, the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology Unpad, namely Mrs. Zahrotur Rusyda Hinduan, MOP, Ph.D, Psychologist was interviewed by Tempo with Anwar Siswadi as the reporter and Ninis Chairunnisa as the editor regarding the brand new Professional Psychology Study Programme. The Padjadjaran University’s Faculty of Psychology, which once provided a Master degree in Professional Psychology Programme, is currently preparing a new study programme to replace it, namely Professional Psychology Study Programme. The alteration is due to the issuance of Indonesia’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation Number 43 of 2023 concerning Psychology Professional Education which was stipulated on the 24th of July, 2023.
“The curriculum was developed in order to support students to possess specific skills as psychologists,” said the Dean of Unpad’s Faculty of Psychology, Mrs. Zahrotur Rusyda Hinduan alias Rosie on Monday, the 7th of August 2023.
The Professional Psychology Study Programme is an advanced study option for bachelors of Psychology. Before this new study programme, the follow-up study programme was Master of Professional Psychology. Beside that, another option that the bachelors can take is Masters in Psychology. The expansion of the regulation, which is relatively new, is the opening of specialist and subspecialist programmes.
Rosie said that the Professional Psychology Study Programme will be taken by students for only 1,5 years or a year faster than the Masters in Professional Psychology Programme which duration was up to 2,5 years. During the first semester, the subject matter of Professional Psychology Education will be about the theory and application of Psychology.
Then for the remaining year, students will take turns doing practical work in four places. “Its application is in health, workplace, community, and education settings,” said the former Chairperson of the Indonesian Psychological Higher Education Organizing Association (Asosiasi Penyelenggara Pendidikan Tinggi Psikologi Indonesia (AP2TPI)) for the 2021-2023 period.
The types of psychological services that will be implemented include promotive, preventive, and curative. In the health sector, the place of practice is like the Community Health Center (Pusat Kesehatan Masyarakat). As for the community sector, some of the examples are disaster areas or areas related to community development issues.
According to Rosie, the length of student assignments is equivalent to 1,000 hours of practical work. This provision refers to Professional Psychology Study Programmes in Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore and Philippines.
While in the Master of Professional Psychology Programme, student assignments were counted from the ten cases they would have to handle. Furthermore, in the Professional Psychology Study Programme there are no Master’s courses such as Statistics, Philosophy and Research Methods. “Because there is no thesis,” said Rosie.
Graduation requirements will be carried out gradually, from the first semester until the competency test is held. Graduates will later bear the title of Psychologist, which is written behind their name.
Currently, out of 140 Undergraduate Psychology Programmes in public and private universities in Indonesia, said Rosie, only 19 Psychology Faculties have Master of Professional Psychology Programme. Among them are the University of North Sumatra, University of Indonesia, Padjadjaran University, Gadjah Mada University, Airlangga University, Maranatha Christian University, Bandung Islamic University, Atmajaya University, Tarumanegara. University, and Gunadharma University. They are currently preparing to open the Professional Psychology Study Programme.
“Registrants can be Bachelor Graduates of Psychology from any year,” said Rosie.
In Unpad, according to Rosie, the admission period for Professional Psychology Study Programme’s students is estimated to be opened at the end of November 2023 until February 2024. Meanwhile, the Masters of Professional Psychology Programme this year will no longer accept new students.
“The admission was ended in 2022 and the study programme will not be closed until the students graduate,” said Rosie, who also said the ratio of the number of applicants and those accepted was between 1:3 and 1:4 (H/SKN).
Kolaborasi Radboud University bersama Universitas Padjadjaran melalui Interpersonal Relationship
Universitas Padjadjaran’s Faculty of Psychology, has just hold an international collaboration again by inviting a lecturer from Radboud University, namely Prof. Johan Karremans. He was in charge in the Interpersonal Relationship class. The class could be attended by undergraduate students of the Universitas Padjadjaran’s Faculty of Psychology, who were in the fifth and seventh semester, as well as Professional Master’s students. Not only them, international students from India could also take part in the class. The class that discussed the development of relationships between humans from birth to death was held for four days from 14-18 August 2023 in a hybrid manner. Undergraduate students of the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Padjadjaran were required to attend this class offline, while professional masters students and students from abroad could attend it via Zoom.
During the class, Prof. Johan Karremans was very enthusiastic to teach the material that he presented and to answer questions asked by students. During these four days, the materials presented were about Social Relationship & Health, Evolutionary Perspective on Mating and Relationship, Relationship Satisfaction and Stability, and (Mis-)Communication. With such interesting and up-to-date materials for students, a lot of students were interested in taking part. However, it was only limited to 100 students. Apart from that, the class delivered by Prof. Johan Karremans used the English language throughout the process. Still, this did not become an obstacle for students during the learning process.
During the process, students were assigned to create a project in the form of a poster session with a theme related to interpersonal relationships under the guidance of lecturers from the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Padjadjaran. This is one of the advantages of the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Padjadjaran, by providing opportunities for students to find out about the latest research which is then packaged in a more interesting way through poster sessions.
At the end of the Interpersonal Relationship class, there were two student representatives who gave a few words to Prof. Johan Karremans as a form of their gratefulness and thankfulness for those four days. Not only that, other students also wrote their impressions via slides, one of which was, “Thank you for this week! It’s really interesting and insightful. I love how you always stated the results of research before and encouraged us to discuss our opinions too! Hope you also enjoy this experience as well as we did!” (source: IR message impression slide). Apart from that, students also printed paper that said “Thank you Professor Johan” and took photos together while wearing batik clothes. The class became a memorable class for the students and of course Prof. John himself.

The collaboration carried out by the Universitas Padjadjaran’s Faculty of Psychology did not stop there, Prof. Johan Karremans was also invited to be involved in the Universitas Padjadjaran’s Faculty of Psychology podcast, where they discussed “Healthy Relationships”. Besides that, he also accompanied research discussions with Interpersonal Relationship lecturers regarding parental approval in adult romantic relationships, which was certainly very interesting for further research. Apart from that, he is also a promoter of Universitas Padjadjaran’s Faculty of Psychology doctoral students for thesis guidance and he will also hold an online relations meeting in November 2023 to discuss intercultural differences between Universitas Padjadjaran’s Faculty of Psychology students and Radboud University students. Aside from that, Prof. Johan Karremans also participated in a competition to celebrate Indonesia’s Independence Day, August 17 2023. With these various collaborations, it is hoped that it can open up various new opportunities for the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Padjadjaran to collaborate with various foreign parties who can develop the quality of education for students at the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Padjadjaran. The Faculty of Psychology’s Public Relation — On Saturday, 6th of May 2023, a mural was painted by alumni from the Faculty of Psychology of Padjadjaran University’s class of 1997. The event was opened with the handover of a Grant Certificate by Dr. Fitriani Yustikasari Lubis, M.Psi, Psychologist to the class leader of 1997’s alumni Faculty of Psychology Unpad. As part of the Faculty of Psychology Unpad, alumni still come along together, providing financial assistance as well as facilities to support learning process on campus. Facilities at the Faculty of Psychology, Padjadjaran University itself have undergone many changes. Starting from the presence of a podcast room, disability ramp, hybrid class, upgraded canteen, and other facilities that can be found when visiting the Faculty of Psychology, Unpad. However, one thing that attracts attention is the colorful mural with the numbers 89 and 97 which can be found at the Faculty of Psychology, Padjadjaran University.

The idea of making this mural was first originated from the existence of one of the excellent facilities of the Faculty of Psychology Unpad, which is a ramp that hopefully would be able to facilitate people with disabilities. One of the alumni from the 1997 class, Mr. Fajar, as the class leader of 1997’s alumni Faculty of Psychology, believes that there is always a story behind what they do and give to their alma mater. The alumni from the 1989 and 1997 years seemed very excited to see the development and progress of their faculty, thus why they did not only want to contribute to the development, but also in the process of decorating it. He also explained that the ideas and pictures for the murals came from the alumni, who were then assisted in visualizing them by a visual designer.

Not only drawing and decorating murals with interesting pictures, but behind them there is a meaning in the form of stories that had happened in each generation (sweet memories when they were still in college), which are then collaborated with themes and psychological issues such as mental health. During the process, the alumni let the painting of this mural go on “organically”, they do not even set a deadline for when this mural should be finished. According to them, all parts of the Faculty of Psychology can contribute together to this art until it is finished. If there is a part of the building that wants to be made into a mural again, the alumni are delighted to welcome the idea and take part again.

The painting process also became a small “reunion” between alumni. Some of these alumni also came with their children who wanted to participate in painting the murals. They also took a group photo while carrying out the handover process between the Faculty of Psychology, Padjadjaran University and the alumni. When the painting process was done, they painted while joking. Each of them also exchanged stories about their lives now and then, remembering flashbacks during their studies at the Faculty of Psychology, Padjadjaran University. Some of them also sang the class of 1997 song “jingle” cheerfully. After painting, they also ate together and toured around the Faculty of Psychology, Unpad, whose facilities have been renovated and has undergone many changes.

Before actually ending the painting process, they did not forget to leave their “marks” on the mural they had painted. They pressed their palms against the paint and walls, leaving behind their memories of that day. Even though we are getting older, the memory and affectiom for the alma mater will never be worn out (H/SKN).
The Faculty of Psychology’s Public Relation — The Faculty of Psychology of UNPAD’s vision, “To become an international standard higher education provider in the research and the application of psychology for the welfare of mankind”, is constantly being endeavored to be realized, one being by conducting quality assurance process or accreditation for its study programs. In order to meet international quality standards, since the beginning of 2022, the Faculty of Psychology of UNPAD started the international accreditation procedure by appointing Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA) to carry out the accreditation process. FIBAA is an international institution based in Germany that is experienced in quality assurance and is recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology to carry out the accreditation process for higher education institutions in Indonesia.
As many as four study programs in UNPAD’s Faculty of Psychology are going through the accreditation process by FIBAA. These programs are Undergraduate Psychology Study Programs (S1), Masters of Psychology (S2), Masters of Professional Psychology (S2), and Doctor of Psychology (S3). Hopefully, by achieving international accreditation, UNPAD’s Faculty of Psychology’s reputation will increase, as it will gain more appeal for its students — both nationally and internationally. This effort would also push students to take part in degree and non-degree programs organized by the Faculty of Psychology UNPAD and attract various institutions at home and abroad to collaborate with the Faculty of Psychology in the fields of education, research, and community service.
International institutions’ recognizement over education quality of study programs in Faculty of Psychology of UNPAD would indeed support accomplishing Padjadjaran University’s vision, which is “Becoming a reputable global university and impacting society” that is based on The Main Scientific System of “Development of the Honor of Law and the Environment”. The Faculty of Psychology also supports Padjadjaran University, which in 2023 has managed to achieve 751-800 rank based on QS WUR and 1501+ according to Times Higher Education (THE), yet still has the dream to achieve the world’s top five hundred ranking.
For information, the Faculty of Psychology through its study programs has been organizing international standard non-degree programs such as summer courses, international conferences, research and professional internships for international students, joint lectures with educational institutions abroad, inviting guest lecturers from abroad, student exchanges from and to abroad, as well as international research collaborations. Beside that, in the degree program, the Psychology Doctoral Study Program (S3) has conducted joint mentoring with lecturers and researchers from universities abroad to make new psychology doctors. Meanwhile, the Psychology Masters Study Program (S2) is currently also developing a joint degree program with the Health Sciences Faculty of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, which is planned to open in 2024. The Psychology Undergraduate Study Program (S1) is also in the process of developing an International Undergraduate Program or international classes in collaboration with Leeds University and several universities in Malaysia.
The international accreditation process involves submitting an application to FIBAA, also writing and submitting a self-evaluation report. This self-evaluation report is an evaluation of the study programs regarding the position of the study program, the focus and targets of the study program, services and support to students, the teaching process (content, structure and methodology), academic environment, and quality assurance. The document of self-evaluation report of the four study programs was then submitted to FIBAA on September 8, 2022.
Currently, the Faculty of Psychology through its four study programs is preparing to carry out the next stage, namely a visitation (site visit) of 5 panel reviewers and 1 project manager from FIBAA on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 20 and 21, 2023. Preparations have been made by the Faculty of Psychology by holding various visitation simulations with study program managers, managers and education staff, lecturers, students, and alumni.
Various challenges have been faced by the study program managers by implementing committees to prepare and carry out this international accreditation process. However, the Faculty of Psychology is als9 fully supported by Universitas Padjadjaran to achieve international accreditation, for example by organizing various repair processes of facilities which are available, providing accreditation fees, and accreditation training for administrators and committees.
This international accreditation process is beneficial for the Faculty of Psychology, Padjadjaran University, to gain recognition on the international stage, as an opportunity to evaluate and improve the education system, curriculum and learning methods, facilities and services to students. With the reputation of the fourth study program at the Faculty of Psychology which is superior and good at the national level as well as the various improvement efforts that have been made, it is hoped that the fourth study program that will receive an international accreditation visitation from FIBAA on June 20-21 2023 will succeed in obtaining a FIBAA Quality Seal or FIBAA Premium Seal for accredited programs. Thus, the efforts of the Faculty of Psychology in achieving the vision and mission of Padjadjaran University can be realized. Support from the rejection of the academic community of the Faculty of Psychology UNPAD is highly expected. Let’s make the FIBAA International Accreditation Visit a success at the Faculty of Psychology UNPAD! (H/SKN)

The Faculty of Psychology’s Public Relation — Increasing age does not necessarily scorch the enthusiasm to gain knowledge. Hence, after completing the Undergraduate Program, the Postgraduate Program is the answer to continue studying to a higher level. However, of course there are not a few of these new Postgraduate students who already have families or are pursuing careers. On this occasion, Universitas Padjadjaran welcomed Postgraduate students by holding a New Student Orientation for the Second Postgraduate Program as a provision so that they have the ability to keep the aspects in their life in balance.
On February 16, 2023, a seminar on Family-Study Balance was held at Bale Rumawat, Padjadjaran University, Bandung. One of the lecturers at the Faculty of Psychology, Padjadjaran University, Dr. Fitri Ariyanti Abidin, M.Psi, was the speaker at the session. Becoming a husband or a wife, especially for those who already have children, of course, is not an easy thing to do while studying postgraduate education. Our identity as a student and a part of the family could never be separated, thus why we have to manage everything.

Balancing studies and family is essential and we, as students, must make an attempt for it. Firstly, the “SMART Planning” method which consists of Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely can be used. This planning should be done together with our family. Assertive communication should be built between every part of the family. Hopefully, children would understand more too regarding the importance of studying and alterations that would be made while their parents pursue education again.
Flexibility is also an important aspect. According to Mrs. Ariyanti herself, a win-win solution that could benefit all parties is such a rare occurrence to be seen in daily life. Thus, humans can only choose the plan which consequences are tolerable. Managing priority scale based on the most valuable thing is also an essential thing to do.
Supporting and helping each other is also crucial to do. Sometimes, we feel weak when we ask for help from other people. Negative perspectives for oneself could even appear from our own mind. However, we shall not let such thoughts affect ourselves. The other way to balance our studies and family life is to gain good and sufficient social support. It is necessary to actively seek help and help each other. When there are also too many negative shifts in ourselves such as emotions that are getting explosive, this can also be a sign that we need professional help.
The event didn’t only stop at the issue of Family-Study balance, it was also continued by the material “Becoming a Resilient Postgraduate Student”, as well as tips and tricks to graduate on time for masters and doctorals students which was delivered by a lecturer from the Faculty of Psychology, Hari Setyowibowo, Ph.D., Psikolog. It is not infrequent that students are required to sacrifice their time, energy, and costs. According to Mr. Setyowibowo, resting the brain and focusing on consistency rather than time intensity is also necessary for students to be more optimal while attending lectures. Beside that, in his material, Mr. Setyowibowo also said that students must develop their knowledge through research and solve problems with a multidisciplinary understanding.

The Head of the Padjadjaran University Career Development Center, namely Dr. Rosalia Mita Amalia, M.Hum also participated in presenting material entitled “Maximizing Postgraduate Education for Careers”. The choice of material is due to the mindset of postgraduate students which is of course more logical and structured. It is hoped that this mindset will enable postgraduate students to enter the professional world and be active in discussions with various perspectives. In addition, Ms. Rosalia said that generally postgraduate students have high research and analytical skills due to the large amount of research, analysis and field practice being carried out (H/SKN).

The book was compiled by a team of writers from 13 best universities in Indonesia (30 authors) from lecturers to students, and this is a form of the Padjadjaran University’s Faculty of Psychology efforts to improve well-being in Indonesia which is expected to bring benefits to society, from Psychology to general public. The process of making this book is the result of all series of activities starting from research, collaboration with outsiders from Padjadjaran University, interventions, to publication. However, intervention for communities were forced to not be carried out due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, but with the efforts and support of many parties, the publication of this book was still possible.

Book Review Session with Dr. Zainal Abidin, M.Psi as the chief editor, guided by Fitri Ariyanti Abidin, M.Psi., Psikolog as the moderator.
Photo: Humas Fapsi
During the contents reviewing session, it was said that there are six parts to the contents of the book, namely the concept of well-being, measurement of well-being, well-being in cultural and societal contexts, well-being in the context of education and work, well-being in specific contexts, and interventions to improve well-being. The material in this book was obtained through webinar speakers from the ALG team which consisted of members of the ALG team and a number of academics and practitioners from various universities in Indonesia, Netherland, and Spain. Apart from the source person, there were also book material donations from colleagues of the Padjadjaran University’s Faculty of Psychology who had conducted well-being research and applications.
The reason behind the creation of this book is the Covid-19 Pandemic situation which has a considerable impact on the well-being of every human being. The impacts are first, the decrease in the quality of welfare community members due to experiencing stress, which is supported by the research that has been conducted and the non-return of well-being due to the transition process (new normal) that is occurring. Second, through a survey conducted by BPS regarding the people happiness index, since 2014 Indonesia hasn’t received attention and referrals from the government, corporations, and society regarding its index. In fact, happiness is the main indicator in measuring the success of development carried out by the government. Third, well-being is an important material to be researched, developed and improved in Indonesia so that aspects of individual, social, cultural and political life have a positive effect. Finally, well-being is positively correlated with education, which basically means that students need teachers who are happy, so that they can motivate students to learn.

Explanation of Well-being and its Relation to Economic Aspects by Prof. Arief Anshory Yusuf, Ph.D.
Photo: Humas Fapsi
After a few words from the chief editor, the event was continued with a more detailed discussion, started with Prof. Arief Anshory Yusuf, Ph.D. Well-being is an experience of health, joy, and prosperity in which individuals have good mental health, high life satisfaction, a sense of meaning or purpose, and the ability to manage stress. This well-being book has a high urgency, is comprehensive, made based on scientific data and facts so that the academic quality would be decent, as well as becoming a supporter for humans — especially in Indonesia, a developing country which needs good management and resources. Prof. Yusuf also sees how Indonesia always has great targets ahead such as being one of the best 5 countries in the world, fostering economic growth, and ideas like these are called growth obsession. These are essential and would indeed support the country, but even until now all the steps are still incomplete. When we see it through the perspective of the economy, we would realize that though financial is an important one, money is not the only main thing. Countries whose happiness indexes are high are indeed the wealthy ones, but besides financial income, there are still other important factors such as health, education, generosity, etc. Therefore, besides objective well-being which sees the general condition of a community, subjective well-being is also an important one for a wide community. In this case, the community also includes the elderly, people who live in remote areas, groups which are vulnerable and susceptible to receive unpleasant treatment.

Book Discussion Session with Academics and Other Practitioners from Various Campuses in Indonesia
Photo: Humas Fapsi
Dr. Bagus Takwin, Psikolog also gives insight from Psychology’s point of view. In his opinion, Psychology can make a meaningful contribution to human life and cultivate knowledge with a justified and adequate scientific basis, applicable in helping people to be happy. This well-being book is a very good one because it was manifested from concepts, research, and areas that existed in Indonesia at a time when there were many translations/research from overseas only. Well-being for both society and individuals has a significant influence. When someone has a good condition, they will also be more resilient to stress, lead a positive and meaningful life, be able to build relationships, and carry out prosocial activities. This also grows the strength that empowers humans in developing civilization and culture. Promoting well-being also requires effective systematic actions and initiatives in Indonesia. This effort certainly must be carried out thoroughly and massively. We expect that besides subjective well-being inside of ourselves, a sense of wanting to participate and feeling mutually valued and connected to the social environment grow in community and social groups.
As previously mentioned, Dr. Nani Nurrachman Sutojo also said that subjective well-being is also important for change and social movement, especially in our country and its current condition. This well-being book also describes how our current conditions are closely related to culture which is a research variable in these communities. So to interpret local knowledge, of course, we require expertise from experts. The concept of well-being can also be used as a principle and basis for the development of intervention modules because it is viewed from the perspective of Biopsychology and Neuroscience as well. It is hoped that in the future this book can also become an intervention module that initiates more new related studies. In addition, it would also be very good if in the future a multidisciplinary meta-scientific collaboration was held so that more new things were revealed, new discoveries and knowledge were discovered, and could be of benefit to a wider audience. *(H/SKN)

At the beginning, Mr. Dr. Yus Nugraha, MA., Psychologist as chairman of the committee said, “This year’s theme is Sustainability of Human Well-Being: When Psychology Meets Technology, sparked from the prolonged Covid-19 pandemic which indirectly brings blessings in disguise.”. The changes during this period has succeedly accelerating the technology and revolution of social change that supported every human being to be able to adapt, along with technological advances. Technological progress should be along with aspects of human welfare in general. Integrating technology into the practice of mental health services in order to achieve human well-being and make transformational change with colleagues in the field of Psychology.
The Dean of Padjadjaran University’s Faculty of Psychology, Ms. Zahrotur Rusyda Hinduan, MOP, Ph.D., Psychologist was also present to provide reports related to achievements and activities at Padjadjaran University’s Faculty of Psychology and invited the Padjadjaran University’s Faculty of Psychology’s family to continue improving quality and evaluating existing aspects to promote Psychological Higher Education in Indonesia, developing science and providing international standard Psychology education. She also mentioned that the integration of technology and psychology can be a solution to provide transformative changes in the prevention, promotion, and treatment of psychological problems through more flexible, agile, on-demand, and personalized services. To support this, Unpad and the Faculty of Psychology themselves have started to implement the use of technology in the implementation of their education. In addition to higher education in Psychology, psychological services and implementation in the field of technology are also crucial to be discussed. Mr. Iskandarsyah as a scientist orator encourages Padjadjaran University’s Faculty of Psychology family to continue to make breakthroughs in order to facilitate the needs of the Indonesian people, and participate in “breakthroughs” as people in other parts of the world have done. As the representative of Padjadjaran University’s Faculty of Psychology, Mr. Iskandarsyah has begun to take steps, especially in the assessment and intervention that can be seen by the launch of the Virtual Reality Personnel Assessment Test (VR-PAT), digital-based online psychological testing and Psychological Online Assessment services, and the development of various mobile applications.
The development of era, time, and its demands are three crucial parts which acted as the background of the selection of Psychotechnology as the 61st Anniversary’s topic. As the Chief Executive of the Padjadjaran University’s Faculty of Psychology‘s 61st Anniversary Committee, Mr. Nugraha explained that each period demands different adaptations and needs according to the changes. This of course applies to all parties and aspects — including Psychology, we should also adapt and change. This is impossible not to do. Those who study and work in Psychology play an important role in the development and preparation of HR (Human Resources) in any era. In order to integrate HR development with technology or digital, this theme was chosen for this 61st Anniversary. Hopefully, this will later be able to support Psychology personnel to continue work and form a more prosperous community environment, especially psychologically.
To complete series of events in this anniversary, Mr. Erwien Garibaldi was invited to give speech and messages as an alumni through Zoom meeting. This 61st Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony received a good response from Mr. Nugraha. He appreciated the committees who were so solid, the neat and thorough preparations. Remembering the flashback of Padjadjaran University’s Faculty of Psychology’s journey, the anniversary was held at Graha Sanusi Dipatiukur in 2019. This year is the first time the 61st Anniversary is held in a hybrid manner. Although the participants didn’t seem too crowded because they had to adjust to regulations during the pandemic, the atmosphere of the 61st Anniversary this time was always filled with emotion and happiness. Mr. Nugraha hopes that the next event can be carried out completely in an attractive manner so that they can meet each other in person. He also hopes to invite other speakers who can give an idea that Psychology graduates can work in various sectors and become global talents. *(H/SKN)
The Faculty of Psychology’s Public Relation — The usual serene Plaza Batu in front of the Mar’at Wiradimadja building in the Faculty of Psychology turned into a lively, bustling place on Friday, 30 September 2022. It’s a rare sight, considering many Psychology classes are done online. But not this one. The Interpersonal Relationship Class was done intensively offline. That is not only the uniqueness this class has. A lecturer from Radboud University, Prof. Johan Karremans, came to Indonesia to personally teach the class. He gave the attending students insights on the material, ranging from the evolutionary perspective of relationships to interpersonal communication. Accompanying him are lecturers from Universitas Padjadjaran, acting as an advisor for students to review their projects.

The Faculty of Psychology’s Public Relation – Four years of waiting for the HIMPSI Scientific Meeting has come to realization in 2022 on Friday (30/9) to Sunday (2/10) in Parapat, Lake Toba. Previously, a series of events simultaneously socialized this event such as associations on improving competence, insight, skills from each field of psychology such as Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Forensic Psychology, and Child Psychology.
The agenda of the HIMPSI Scientific Meeting 2022 is to discuss the standard of psychology and the direction of psychological development after promulgation of PLP Law (Law on Education and Psychological) which was proposed by the chairman of the commission. In addition, there was a replacement period for the chairman of HIMPSI where the previous chairman of HIMPSI, Prof. Dr. Seger Handoyo, Psychologist and head of AP2TPI, Ms. Zahrotur Rusyda Hinduan, S.Psi, M.O.P., Ph.D did the reporting and at the end, a new HIMPSI chair was appointed.

The event, which was organized by HIMPSI North Sumatra, aims to present the current research conducted by psychologists in Indonesia from universities, associations, practitioners to related institutions such as the Army and Navy Psychological Services, Psychological Research Institutes and Hospitals. The presentation topics were very diverse, namely Digital Psychology, Tourism Psychology and Creative Industries, Indigenous Psychology, Positive Psychology and Mental Health, Forensic Psychology and Public Policy, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Resilience Psychology and Islamic Psychotherapy, and others. This shows the development trend of Psychology research in Indonesia. Of course, 150 participants whose presentations will be incomplete if they’re not attended by representatives from the Faculty of Psychology, University of Padjadjaran. The representative who attended was Dr. Anissa Lestari Kadiyono, M.Psi, Psychologist, with a presentation on Positive Psychology and Mental Health. In addition, representatives from Unpad Fapsi who attended included Zahrotur Rusyda Hinduan, S.Psi., MOP, Ph.D, Dr. Yus Nugraha, M.A, and Hari Setyowibowo, S.Psi., M.Psi., Ph.D., Psychologist.

Unmitigated, Dr. Anissa Lestari Kadiyono, M.Psi, Psychologist presented the results of research with her two colleagues from Maranatha University on “Well Being of Indonesian Remote Workers Who Work in the IT Sector: Descriptive Study”. The research topic was taken against the background of a change in the form of work — which although it has occurred in the last 10 years — its development has been increasingly massive since the beginning of the pandemic. People still try to work productively even though they can’t meet in person because of restrictions. One example in the field of Psychology is the implementation of online tele-assessment and tele-intervention which are regulated in the AP2TPI Number 1/Kep/AP2TPI/2021. Even as situations change, the basic need for individuals to remain happy and have well-being remains the same. Even if they can do work from home, individuals still feel the workload. Of course, even in different environments for example in terms of place and relationship. What is then examined in this study is the pressure and its shape in terms of the meaning of well-being. This study seeks to reveal whether working online is happier and can maintain well-being or not.
Presentment of this study is very fascinating, in fact there are no problems and differences between remote workers who work from home fully and remote workers who work hybridly (sometimes at home or office), the difference is seen in the level of happiness between women and men. Research has shown that the happiness level of women who work from home is lower than that of men. In addition, the relationship between individuals also plays an important role that can affect the quality of one’s happiness. This becomes essential to maintain the well-being of the individual, regardless of where the individual works.
According to Mrs. Anissa, what made the HIMPSI Scientific Meeting different this time was the euphoria felt when meeting colleagues from all over Indonesia. This long-awaited event is also a place for her to get in touch with her students who have graduated from the Psychologist Profession Masters Study Program. She even said that the HIMPSI Scientific Meeting this time felt like a reunion, one and the other already knew each other well. This scientific meeting is also a good moment to build new relationships to collaborate in the future.
For the next HIMPSI Scientific Meeting, Mrs. Anissa’s hope is that Unpad Fapsi — both students and lecturers — can participate directly. She also said that the registration was relatively easy, it just had to be fast because the colleagues’ interest from all over Indonesia was quite large. There is so much information and experience that can be obtained during this kind of scientific meeting. By doing so, it’s hoped that each individual will be able to better recognize what are the associations of psychology and the latest developments in psychology. (H/SKN)
The Faculty of Psychology’s Public Relation — HIMPSI’s (Himpunan Psikologi Indonesia) Congress was held in a hybrid manner with HIMPSI North Sumatra as the host. This event was held on Friday (30/9/22) s.d. Saturday (1/10/22). The main location of this year’s congress was in Parapat City, Danau Toba. All delegations from different regions in Indonesia and HIMPSI’s administrators attended this event, either offline or online from their respective homes. From 34 HIMPSI regions, delegates from each region were sent, adjusting to the total number of members of the region. In addition, there are also 20 associations under HIMPSI itself such as Association of Industrial and Organizational Psychology (Asosiasi Psikologi Industri dan Organisasi (APIO)), the Indonesian Health Psychology Association (Asosiasi Psikologi Kesehatan Indonesia (APKI)), the Social Psychology Association (Asosiasi Psikologi Sosial), etc. Academics, practitioners, and students came as delegates. Practitioners are Psychological scientists who are graduates of Psychology Major and Psychologists who have ever practiced. As AP2TPI’s (Asosiasi Penyelenggara Pendidikan Tinggi Psikologi Indonesia) chairman and Dean of Padjadjaran University Faculty of Psychology, Mrs. Zahrotur acted as the keynote speaker during the opening of the 2022 HIMPSI XIV Congress which bridged cooperation between universities, AP2TPI, and professional organizations.

Two main events of HIMPSI XIV Congress 2022 were HIMPSI Organization Session and Scientific Meeting. Besides attending HIMPSI Organization Session which discussed the change of HIMPSI’s chairman, Mrs. Zahrotur also attended the Symposium regarding Gen Z — a part of Scientific Meeting. The presentations presented at HIMPSI Symposium were diverse. Some of the speakers did research and took sample data for their research presentation, but there were also practitioners who observed the circumstances and conditions around them (action research). The first speaker was Dr. Ayu Dwi Nindyati, M.Sc., a Psychologist from Pancasila University who brought Gen Z’s needs at the current time as her topic. What does Gen Z need the most? Achievement, affiliation, or power? Her findings revealed that Gen Z’s highest need is the need for achievement. The second speaker was Dr. Sumaryono, M.Si, a psychologist from Gadjah Mada University. He presented his research result regarding the form of interpersonal relationship that Gen Z develops these days. It was shown that Gen Z are more focused on collaborative relationships to achieve something. This finding was interesting as it supports the previous presentation. Besides these two presentations, Antonius Irwan, S.T. who is a young leader/service manager at Auto 2000 Jakarta also presented a phenomenon in his workplace, where job satisfaction for Gen Z is strongly influenced by internal motivation.
Regardless of age and ability, everyone could participate in this year’s HIMPSI Congress. The proof was that several Padjadjaran University students presented presentations in parallel classes (one of a series of Scientific Meetings), which were divided into classes with certain themes. Although their attendance did not directly represent Padjadjaran University Faculty of Psychology, Mrs. Zahrotur was proud and happy when students have enthusiasm to participate in such events. Mrs. Zahrotur herself has high hopes for the presence of her students in events such as the HIMPSI Congress, both in Bandung and UNPAD itself. She even said, “I am very sure that our Padjadjaran University Faculty of Psychology students have very high potential.”. Hence, students need not feel insecure even though their abilities are still not as good as other people, there will be room for growth such as the HIMPSI Congress. Events like these could be a big leap to improve our skills.

The HIMPSI XIV Congress event left an impression from Mrs. Zahrotur, namely at the Organizational Session, Mrs. Zahrotur learned to see the organization from a political-related point of view. Meanwhile during the Symposium, she stated that all research’s findings were interesting — topics from the first, second, and third presenter supported each other equally. Even though the HIMPSI Congress was attended by practitioners and academics, the situation during the congress was not stiff at all. It instead gave birth to an insight to conduct further research regarding Gen Z. In addition, it was also a good thing that no one is judgmental to any kind of questions asked by participants. Such situations helped improve analytical thinking skills. For suggestion, a longer duration for the next congress might be necessary so that the entire event can be carried out without the cancellation of activities due to limited time (H/SKN)*.

The Anniversary of the Faculty of Psychology was closed with a “Acara Suka-Ria Penuh Rasa Syukur”. Based on interviews with Mrs. Dr. Marina Sulastiana, M.Si., Psychologist as the coordinator of the event, the word “suka-ria” or “joy” itself appears because at this celebration the lecturers and staff can gather again after a long time. The content of this activity was lunch, gathering, and also games.
As for the word “penuh rasa syukur” or “gratitude” appears for the many achievements that have been achieved by the faculty until the age of 61. The achievements of the faculty are increasing the number and quality of collaboration, research, and publications at the national and international levels. On the admissions side of new undergraduate students, the Faculty of Psychology Unpad has a high level of tightness where the number of applicants is more than the number of students accepted. On top of that, this “gratitude” is also aimed at the achievement of the Faculty of Psychology Unpad as the first psychology faculty that was born in Indonesia and became an independent faculty.
As a part of “Acara Suka-Ria Penuh Rasa Syukur”, the Anniversary of the Faculty of Psychology was also enlivened by various competitions, such as cake packaging competition and nasi kuning packaging competition. Although the time was limited, the two competitions were still running lively. Mrs. Dr. Marina Sulastiana, M.Si., Psychologist also mentioned that the participants could feel the excitement again after a long time.
At the age of 61 this year, it is hoped that the Faculty of Psychology will remain the foremost faculty in Indonesia. The Faculty of Psychology needs to continue to improve its role and usefulness so that it gets recognition at the national and international levels (TSN/RA/NAHP)*.

The Faculty of Psychology’s Public Relation – Students of Psychology Faculty from Padjadjaran University won the National Psychology Fair held by Widya Mandala Surabaya University in April 2022. The National Psychology Fair is an academic competition with two different branches, intervention design and psychographics. The Faculty of Psychology of Padjadjaran University sent three teams, one for the intervention design and two for the psychographic.
The team for the intervention design with members Syauqiyyah Syahlaa, Martha Amelia, and Athifah Qonita won 2nd place. Meanwhile, the team for the psychographic branch with members Hutami Rachmat, Sonya Amathun, and Zalfa Ayu won 3rd place. Furthermore, Michelle Astari Rumiris Silitonga, Trifena Angelina Erawan, and Ammalya Darayatulhusna won the Favorite Winner category.
The National Psychology Fair was held online between February and April 2022. The competition started with the selection process, the top 10 finalists, the top 8 finalists, the final presentation, and the winner announcement.
Humas Fapsi interviewed one of the representatives, Syauqiyyah Syahlaa, to share her team’s experiences in participating in the competition, particularly in the intervention design. The intervention design team was supervised by one of the Unpad Psychology Faculty lecturers, Dr. Retno Hanggarani Ninin, M.Psi., a Psychologist. The team brought one of the hot issues in cyberspace, cyberbullying, for the topic of “looking for a way out from cyber issues.”
In the interview, Syauqiyyah Syahlaa said she decided to participate in the competition because of her motivation to improve her skills and gain competencies that can not be achieved only in class. Another benefit of competing in the intervention design was understanding intervening problems. Through this experience, she became more aware of the importance of studying psychology.
However, there are still challenges that Syauqiyyah and the team must face in the process. One of them is the timing of the competition that overlapped with the Mid-Semester Examination (UTS), which made it difficult for Syauqiyyah and the team to find time to discuss. But, they overcame by taking the opportunity to discuss as efficiently as possible so that nothing would be missed. With all of the challenges, Syauqiyyah and the team could still deliver the best and successfully won 2nd place in the intervention design competition.
“When participating in the competition, we were not waiting to be ready to participate, but we were participating to be ready. Because only by trying it will we know how prepared and capable we are in doing it.” *(TSN/RA/NAHP)

Humas Fapsi – After two months and 16 meetings of the joint lecture on the Pain Perception elective course by the Psychology Faculty of Unpad collaborating with Radboud University Nijmegen (RUN), a joint final exam was held between Universitas Padjadjaran dan Radboud University Nijmegen students on April 5, 2022. Unlike last year’s online exams, this year, the exams at Radboud University Nijmegen were carried out offline following local government regulations. The situation due to the Covid-19 pandemic was getting better in the Netherlands. However, the exam implementation for Unpad students needed some adjustment to the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia and the 5 hour time difference between the Netherlands and Indonesia. So that this exam could take place simultaneously with Radboud University Nijmegen, the Pain Perception course exam in Indonesia was held at night, online.

Execution of the online exam [Photo by: Humas Fapsi]
The exam took place at 12:45-14:45 CEST. Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the exam was held later than in the Netherland, which was at 19.30-21.30 WIB, adjusting the break the fast time for some Indonesian students. There are 12 students from Indonesia, consisting of 6 undergraduate students from the Psychology Faculty of Unpad, 4 master’s students from Professional Psychology of Unpad, and 2 Neurology resident students from Diponegoro University. The exam ran smoothly with help from Bromanji (Browser Aman Ujian) surveillance, developed by the Center for Psychology Universitas Padjadjaran (PIP Unpad). The Browser Aman Ujian helps ensure a clean exam without cheating so that students cannot cooperate and cannot browse the internet or read notes. To ensure the exam can run smoothly using Bromanji, a tryout was held by students and lecturers of Radboud University Nijmegen to test the security level for the surveillance. The questions students face from Indonesia are the same as those faced by those from the Netherland and other international students following the joint lecture concept.
Entol Bugi Agung Prathama, M.Psi, a Psychologist from PIP Unpad, was the Proctor during the exam. The Bromanji system was then displayed on the zoom platform so that the entire examination could be monitored by Dr. Fitri Ariyanti Abidin, M.Psi., a Psychologist that played the role of course coordinator for external students from Indonesia. The supervision was also to monitor technical problems experienced by students on online exams. In an interview with Dr. Fitri Ariyanti Abidin, M.Psi., a psychologist, she also described a situation when a student’s laptop could not access Bromanji. Thus, personal assistance was needed in order to continue the exam.
After all the exam procedures are carried out, the results will be given to Radboud University Nijmegen to be further processed together with the other value components, which are the values of the group project proposal. In the group project component, each group consisted of 5 people, a combination of Indonesian students and international students from various countries. They had to propose a research project related to pain perception and treatment, then present it. There were discussions with other groups and the teaching team during the presentation. Each group was also asked to ask critical questions about project proposals from other groups.
The passing grade for students in this course is 5.50 on both the project proposal and final exam. If one did not meet the existing standards, students were allowed to resit. The minimum TOEFL requirement to follow this course was 550, ensuring the students understood the material and the ongoing discussions.
Based on the results of student evaluations of the Pain Perception course, many good responses were given.
“This course has given me a broader perspective about pain and its complex aspects. The quizzes also helped me to test my knowledge about what I have learned in class and what I have read in the books. The teaching methods that all the lecturers used have also helped me understand the topic way more easily. For me, the best experience of this course is the final group project. The experience of working with other students from different universities and majors has given me new perspective and knowledge, especially about pain,” said one student expressing his impression of the Pain Perception course. As the coordinator of this course, Dr. Fitri Ariyanti Abidin, M.Psi., a Psychologist, also invited Psychology Faculty of Unpad students to register for the Pain Perception course in the odd semester of the 2022/2023 academic year.
“Taking the Pain Perception course is a perfect opportunity to gain experience learning in an international environment. So, let the students of the Psychology Faculty of Unpad take advantage of the provided facilities. Announcement of registration is opened at the beginning of every odd semester,” said Dr. Fitri Ariyanti Abidin, M.Psi., a Psychologist, during the interview (TSN/RA/NAHP).

The Board of Directors of the Faculty of Psychology held a series of gatherings with 6 (six) Departments and Retirees in the Faculty of Psychology. This activity was carried out with the aim of obtaining input from all departments regarding (1) Communication Patterns and (2) Departmental Restructuring.
This gathering was attended and opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, Zahrotur Rusyda Hinduan, S.Psi., MOP., Ph.D, moderated by the Deputy Dean of Organizational Resources, Dr. Afra Hafny Noer, M.Sc., Psychologist and Deputy Dean for Student Learning & Research, and attended by every Head of Department and all members of the Department.
The first meeting was conducted offline with the Department of General and Experimental Psychology on Saturday, March 12, 2022. The next activity was conducted online on Monday, March 21, 2022 with the Department of Developmental Psychology; Wednesday, March 23, 2022 with the Department of Industrial and Organizational Psychology; Friday, March 25, 2022 with the Department of Social Psychology; Monday, March 28, 2022 with the Department of Educational Psychology and Purbakti; and concludes on Monday, April 4, 2022 with the Department of Clinical Psychology. This activity lasts for 2 – 2.5 hours.
The gathering, which was packaged with an open discussion, went smoothly and was well received by all members of the Department and the retired staff. Members of the Department and Retired Members can state what things need to be evaluated and improved from the implementation of faculty activities so far, what solutions can be taken and what are the expectations for future faculty activities. Through this gathering, it is hoped that it will become a forum for the Leaders to establish a dialogue with members of the department and get constructive input for the Faculty of Psychology (TSN/RA/NAHP).
Humas Fapsi – As one of the elective courses, the Pain Perception course held a hybrid practicum on 7th to 8th February 2022 in order to provide real experience for students and for the development of practical methods in the future. As stated by the lecturer in charge of this course, Fitri Ariyanti Abidin, M.Psi., Psychologist, this hybrid practicum method has the potential to be reapplied later since it has received many positive responses. However, the Covid-19 pandemic situation in Indonesia will still be the main consideration in planning hybrid practicums later.
Since the beginning, this hybrid practicum method in the Pain Perception course was an idea from Radboud University Nijmegen (RUN) and Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) who have been working together with RUN for a long time, following the same practicum system. Common focus of science study between the Faculty of Psychology in Unpad and Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition, and Behaviour in RUN has made the concept of collaboration and practicum between both faculties continue to go well.
On the implementation of this hybrid practicum, some activities were done online, and the rest was done on-site in the Faculty of Psychology, Unpad, 2nd Building 2nd floor. As for the parties, involved from RUN were three lecturers, while from Unpad were two lecturers (Fitri Ariyanti Abidin, M.Psi., Psychologist & Aulia Iskandarsyah, M.Psi., M.Sc., Ph.D., Psychologist) and also seven students consist of three master students and four undergraduate students.
In the interview with Fitri Ariyanti Abidin, M.Psi., Psychologist, has been told that this practice tried to prove pain perception in certain conditions. For example, providing visual interventions through virtual reality and audio to condition individuals in a relaxed manner, so that when a painful stimulus is given, it can be measured whether the pain threshold increases or not. Furthermore, there was also another practice about phantom limbs (a condition where humans feel pain or have reflexes when their body parts are no longer able to feel a given stimulus).
Since there were additional technical required in the field when practicum on-site, the Pain Perception course team helped by Whisnu Yudiana, S.Psi., M.Psi., Psychologist to prepare necessary tools. Eventually, the whole practicum could run smoothly and get responsive support from RUN, especially related to feedback and suggestions for good practice. Mrs. Fitri admitted that she was very happy and very proud to see the implementation of the practicum exceeded her expectations. This opens the opportunity to continue the implementation of the same program in the next semester while at the same time do further review to the effectiveness of the implementation of this hybrid practicum.
Every student who planned to attend the Pain Perception course is told to prepare their English ability with minimum score 550 for standardized and internationally recognized TOEFL or IELTS. Furthermore, a resume and motivation letter are also needed, and the most important is to have a strong desire to learn biopsychology and neuropsychology since both subjects are the basis for understanding the Pain Perception course. It would be better if every student also has sufficient understanding of experimental psychology and statistics because both subjects are part of the implementation of research that will be carried out in this course. Eventhough it relates strongly to the practicum, the Pain Perception course also applies other learning methods, such as making proposals and presentations to facilitate students understanding more. *-(TSN/RA/NAHP)
Global pandemic presents various challenges in many aspects of life, making mental health issues management skills important to have in order to make dealing with said obstacles possible. Those skills become especially significant to college students who are burdened with various academic responsibilities, social issues, and concerns regarding their future and postgraduation life.

Humas Fapsi – January 27th, 2022, Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Padjadjaran succeeded in graduating the first psychology graduate with a scientific article scheme as a substitute for a thesis. Rizky Putri Amalia, or used to be called Putri, graduated with a cumlaude of 3.82 under the guidance of Dr. Fitri Ariyanti Abidin, M.Psi., Psychologist and Dr. Fitriani Yustikasari Lubis, M.Psi., Psychologist. Her scientific article entitled “Parenting Stress, Maternal Assessment of Covid-19, and Supportive Parenting” has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Family & Consumer Science and will be published for the May 2022 edition, Vol. 15 No. 2.
In the interview conducted by the Fapsi Unpad Public Relation Team, Putri said that the decision to write this scientific article was from her supervisor. “So that, the benefits would reach not only the faculty environment, but also the people who read it.”
It became a very big consideration for Putri to determine her graduation. Putri considered how hard it would be to write an article while she still had college acitivities and other activities. However, this also challenged her since the Faculty of Psychology at Unpad had never graduated with a psychology degree through this pathway.
While writing the article, Putri also did her thesis as the backup plan. The article writing itself started right after her research proposal defense, held on June 24th, 2021. After some revision, Putri, with guidance from both supervisors, started the journal search and decided to publish her article to the Journal of Family & Consumer Science.
Putri sent her article on October 25th, 2021. While waiting for the result, Putri got her thesis done. Putri got reviews from the journal and also revised her article until she got the decree that her scientific article accepted on January 19th, 2022.
For Putri, the challenge of the writing process is time, since she had to spend a lot of time reading, writing, and dealing with several revisions. She also had to prepare herself if her article wasn’t accepted, regardless of her effort.
Putri got through all of it since she got a lot of support from her supervisors, family, and also friends. Also, her struggle finally paid off since her article was accepted and she graduated without going through a thesis defense. Putri officially graduated on Thursday, January 27th, 2022.*(TSN/RA/NAHP)

Humas Fapsi – Athifah Qonita Millati, usually called Thifa, is a student of Psychology Faculty at Universitas Padjadjaran batch 2021. Even before she sat on that chair, Thifa already had several achievements, including proposing her research in the International Science and Egineering Fair (ISEF) 2021. ISEF itself is the biggest science fair for high school students around the world and usually held in the United States. However, due to the pandemic situation, ISEF 2021 was held online.
Doing research is one of Thifa’s favorite things. According to Thifa, she enjoys doing research because she can find many new facts. Her passion for research is also supported by her hobbies in reading and writing. She also gets a lot of support from her parents. With both her passion and the support that she got, Thifa was able to take part in ISEF 2021.
Thifa with her colleague, Naila Imtinan Himam, proposed their research, “Optimizing Student’s Working Memory Capacity with Binaural Beats” in the ISEF 2021. This research explained how the use of binaural beats while studying could increase working memory capacity for students. In ISEF 2021, Thifa and her colleague could achieve several awards, those are 4th award in the Behavioral and Social Sciences Category and 3th Special Award from the American Psychological Association.
During the research process, Thifa and her colleague received guidance from lecturers from various universities as well as Puspresnas. Thifa’s mother also helped her since she had the same background as this research.
According to Thifa, she could meet several friends around the world and got a chance to be interviewed by the judges.
However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Thifa could only experience it virtually. Moreover, this pandemic situation became a threat to this research because it had to be done online and became her first online experiment. Not to mention that she also had to involve people directly.
From her experience participating in the ISEF 2021, Thifa got a lot of lessons that she couldn’t get at school and, according to her, these lessons will be useful when she moves to university. During ISEF as well, Thifa received feedback from resource persons, judges, and supervisors. She also got to meet many new friends with the same hobby as her, not only in Indonesia, but also around the world.
The achievement that she received not only in the ISEF 2021. In 2020, Thifa received a gold medal in the Kompetisi Penelitian Siswa Indonesia (KOPSI) 2020, held by Pusat Prestasi Nasional in the social sciences and humanities field. According to her, KOPSI also played a big role in growing her interest in research. From KOPSI, Thifa had this opportunity to represent Indonesia in the ISEF 2021.
According to Thifa, due to this research she did when she was still in high school, she felt that other students also needed to be further introduced to the research field more, especially the need for a forum for students to channel their interests. This can be helped by the involvement of the school in providing opportunities and places for students to explore related research. Not only for high school students, Thifa also mentioned that similar things can be done by college students, such as participating in competitions or participating in research conducted by lecturers. Humas Fapsi – After undergoing online lecture activities for 2 years during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Padjadjaran held an offline gathering for all lecturers and education staff. This activity was carried out separately: on Tuesday, December 28th 2021 for lecturers and on Tuesday, January 4th 2022 for education and administrative staff.
The gathering was held to evaluate and appreciate the lecturers’ and education staff’s performance during the 1 year period of Mrs. Zahrotur Rusyda Hinduan, S.Psi., MOP, Ph.D, tenure as the Dean of Psychology Faculty at Universitas Padjadjaran.
At this time, there were so many changes that required all lecturers and education staff to adapt. These changes became a requirement from the university, i.e the hybrid university program and internationalization, and also from the ministry, i.e the MBKM program. Moreover, these changes had to be done in the pandemic year where everything was held online.
At this gathering there was an academic agenda and also a team building agenda, including group competition, doorprize distribution, and celebration of the winner.
Entering the second year of Covid-19 pandemic and second vaccination, hopefully this gathering could be kick off for all lecturers and education staff to work on campus. *- (TSN/RA/NAHP)
Nabilah Cahyani, usually called Abil, is a student in the Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Padjadjaran batch of 2019 who has always wanted to participate in a student exchange program abroad since she was in high school. Despite failing in the selection process of the exchange program, Abil tried again–when she was studying at Universitas Padjadjaran–to participate in a student exchange program from the Ministry of Education and Culture, called IISMA (Indonesia International Student Mobility Award). Abil succeeded to achieve her dream of studying at the University of Sussex in England for a semester or 11 weeks, starting from September 2021 after completing a variety of processes from the registration to the selection.
Abil explained that in the exchange program in which she participates, she studies Psychology, the same major which she studied at Universitas Padjadjaran. Abil takes some courses, such as basic psychology, cognitive neuroscience, social cognitive development, and digital environment. These courses are the subjects which have been taken into consideration by the Head of Undergraduate Program Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Padjadjaran, KUI (Kantor Urusan Internasional) of Universitas Padjadjaran, and Abil’s academic advisor so that she can take these courses and have her course credits from the University of Sussex converted into the course credits in Universitas Padjadjaran for the score transcript.
When Abil got a question about her experience studying in England, starting from the culture shock she had to the new things she learned while studying in England, she said that her first culture shock was about the very unpredictable weather. Although it rarely snowed in the winter season, Abil still often felt how cold it was. Meanwhile, Abil had a second culture shock about the British accent, which was also a challenge for Abil. Related to the new things which Abil discovered when she arrived in England, there is a distinction between how the lecturers in the United Kingdom and Indonesia educate the students. In England, lecturers want their students to actually study and there is no distinction between the ‘lecturer’ and the ‘student’ in the discussion. Lecturers will encourage the students to study independently, actively seek more information, but the lecturers will still guide them in understanding the material. In addition, there are only 8 hours a week of face-to-face meetings in the classroom with the lecturers in the United Kingdom. Furthermore, the students will study independently so they will only have to discuss with each other when they meet in class. However, according to Abil, each course has its own learning style, such as lecturing, seminars, workshops, and then followed by assignments, exams, and reading lists for every week. Abil, who was dealing with this learning style, was concerned that she would struggle academically due to the differences in the learning style compared to Indonesia. On the other hand, Abil was also worried about regretting her decision if she did not participate in the exchange program, considering that there are many new experiences that she gets through this student exchange program.
In the interview, Abil explained that she chose the University of Sussex because it provides a student exchange program for Psychology students, along with the University of Sussex’s excellence in neuroscience and clinical studies which also attracted Abil. Overall, Abil feels very grateful to have been selected as one of the 1000 Indonesian students who participate in the IISMA program in 2021.
At the end of the interview, Abil conveyed her messages, impressions, and advice to her friends from the Faculty of Psychology in Universitas Padjadjaran who are interested in participating in the exchange program. “Don’t be afraid to try,” said Abil. Pursue your dreams, don’t be lazy to seek information about student exchange programs. Not only that, but prepare yourself for the language. Regardless of the country chosen, the language should be mastered. For English, you need IELTS or a minimum score of 550 for TOEFL IBT. In the end, this exchange program becomes a very meaningful moment and gives many educational experiences for Abil.
“Not only dare to dream, Abil also makes her dreams come true. Dear students from the Faculty of Psychology in Universitas Padjadjaran, let’s continue to dream and achieve those dreams to enrich our knowledge and gain other beneficial experiences. Keep learning, keep growing” (TSN/RA/NAHP).

SBMPTN
Did you know yet?
SNBT stands for Seleksi Nasional Berbasis Tes (Test-Based National Selection). The SNBT route is very different from the SNBP! Why? Because the SNBT assessment uses scores from the Ujian Tulis Berbasis Komputer (UTBK; Computer-Based Writing Examination) held simultaneously by various state universities. Unlike SNBP, grades during SMA/MA/equivalent are not considered. The SBMPTN route has the highest difficulty level compared to the other 2 selection routes.
To enter the Psychology Undergraduate Study Program, the test subjects of the UTBK that are taken into consideration are:
Scholastic Potential Test (TPS)
Literacy in Indonesian and English
Mathematical Reasoning
Complete SNBT information can be checked at the following link:
SNBT Capacity
The capacity of the Psychology Undergraduate Study Program in 2023 is 210 people. However, in 2023 the acceptance quota for the SNBT is 40% or 84 people applicants from all over Indonesia. Check the complete data on the tightness in the last 5 years!
SNBT | 2018 | 2019 | 2020 | 2021 | 2022 |

Applicants | 4587 | 1568 | 2619 | 3189 | 3309 |

SBPMTN Schedule

SNPMB for State Universities 2023 is a team formed by the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology to prepare for selection to enter state universities through the SNBP and SNBT routes.
The complete SNBT schedule can be accessed at the following link:

Cost of Education
Tuition fees for students who enter through the SNBP and SNBT ways in the Unpad Psychology Undergraduate Study Program will follow the provisions of the payment system for State Universities which is divided into 2 parts, namely:
- BKT (Single Tuition Fee): BKT is the total operational cost of each student per semester in a study program
- UKT (Single Tuition): UKT is the tuition fee borne by each student every semester. In the UKT system, all tuition fees in the form of building fees, tuition fees, practicum funds, and other tuition support costs have been merged into one and divided equally into eight semesters. Students who have paid UKT in one semester do not need to be charged any additional fees. So, they only pay tuition fees at the beginning of each semester, namely UKT. The payment system at UKT is adjusted to each student’s abilities and economic conditions.
- BKT : Rp. 10.786.319
- UKT I : Rp. 500.000
- UKT II : Rp. 1.000.000
- UKT III : Rp. 2.500.000
- UKT IV : Rp. 4.000.000
- UKT V : Rp. 5.500.000
- UKT VI : Rp. 7.500.000
- UKT VII : Rp. 10.000.000
- UKT VIII : Rp. 12.000.000
